LISA KNAPP
TILL APRIL IS DEAD ≈ A GARLAND OF MAY

South London folk singer, songwriter and fiddle player Lisa Knapp is releasing her highly anticipated 3rd solo album later this spring (April 28th) titled ‘Till April Is Dead ≈ A Garland of May’ (Ear To The Ground Music).

This sparklingly fresh album is an evocative exploration into the merry month of May through folk songs and folklore. From carols and chants belonging to rituals of which the origins are lost to the mists of time, to songs of love, lust and loss set in that most merry of months. Featuring eleven startlingly original and radiant interpretations of traditional folk, Lisa merges fiddle, hammered dulcimer, pump organ and strings with birdsong and sonic delights from the technological age.

She is joined on the album by Graham Coxon (Blur) who sings and plays guitar on Searching For Lambs and performer and poet David Tibet (Current 93) who exudes a playful menacing presence on Staines Morris both of whom she met while working with Shirley Collins. Another groundbreaking folk singer, Mary Hampton joins her on Bedfordshire May Carol. Long time musical collaborator and highly respected producer/artist in his own right Gerry Diver is on production duties throughout.
Lisa populates her latest recordings with sounds of old clocks, bells and barrel organs, considered to have been ‘modern’ musical gadgets in earlier centuries. She also creates unique atmospheres using sounds of insects and birds, making the connection with landscape and nature emerging, teetering on the edge of eruption.

Already enjoying airplay on Tom Robinson’s @BBC 6Music show, Mark Radcliffe BBC Folk Show and BBC London Robert Elms this album looks set to be just as well received as her previous releases.
